NEW YORK, NY (March 30, 2010) – Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, a division of Hachette Book Group, has announced today that it will release the first new title from Stephenie Meyer in nearly two years. The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner is a novella told from the point of view of Bree, a character originally featured in Eclipse. The novella (at 192 pages) will be released at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2010 in hardcover for $13.99 with a first printing of 1.5 million copies. One dollar for each book sold in the US from the first printing will be donated to the American Red Cross International Response Fund, which supports disaster relief efforts such as those in Haiti and Chile.*

“I’m as surprised as anyone about this novella,” said Stephenie Meyer. “When I began working on it in 2005, it was simply an exercise to help me examine the other side of Eclipse, which I was editing at the time. I thought it might end up as a short story that I could include on my website. Then, when work started on The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide, I thought the Guide would be a good fit for my Bree story. However, the story grew longer than I anticipated, until it was too long to fit into the Guide.”

As a special thank you to fans, Meyer is giving them exclusive access to the novel on a dedicated website, www.breetanner.com, from June 7 to July 5, 2010 where fans from around the world will be able to read the book online in English. “I’d always considered The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner as something for the fans,” said Meyer. “They have been so supportive of all things Twilight.”

Visitors to the dedicated site will also find a link to the American Red Cross website (www.redcross.org), where they can make a donation and learn more about their relief efforts worldwide. “I have been moved by the generous outpouring of support for the recent crises in Haiti and Chile,” said Meyer. “I am glad that sales of this book will support the American Red Cross with their amazing efforts abroad.”

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner is the riveting story of Bree Tanner, a newborn vampire first introduced in Eclipse, and the darker side of the world she inhabits. The novella chronicles the newborn vampire army’s journey as they prepare to close in on Bella Swan and the Cullens, following their encounter to its unforgettable conclusion.
The character Bree not only features prominently in the book Eclipse, but in the upcoming movie from Summit Entertainment. “Stephenie was gracious enough to let me read a draft of the novella while we were prepping the movie The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” said Director David Slade. “I thoroughly enjoyed the story and it gave us great insight and inspired location choices and the tailoring of scenes. The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner will also be available as an ebook beginning at 6:00 a.m. EST on June 5, 2010. Additionally, more information about the previously announced The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide, including publication date, will be released by the end of the year.

First Zoo Visit!

Yesterday (in all its 60 degree glory), Abbie and I went to the zoo.  It was our first trip of 2010.  It was so wonderful to get outside and walk around.  The walking was especially wonderful after spending six weeks on limited activity restrictions from my surgeon.  My back even survived the hour I spent walking around.  Hurray!

I'll spare you all of the animal pictures, and just show you Abbie.  Yes, I am aware that Abbie, on most days, might be animal enough to belong in the zoo.  Just kidding!  Sort of.

I cannot express how excited I am.  My craft blog received several hundred hits today, and the St. Patrick's Day bunting was picked up by another blogger who has featured it on her site too.

I can't believe that people like something that I created.  It's amazing to feel like I'm good at something.  Wow.

Little Ballerina

Abbie has been participating in a ballet class once a week.  She attends Storybook Ballet.  During each class, they spend time learning basic ballet, then they read and act out a story.  The best part of the class is story time, where they get to wear costumes for the story assigned to that week.  This week, the story was The Princess and the Frog.  Abbie is a wonderful little ballerina.  She is actually very coordinated, more so than a lot of the other girls in her class.  It's probably because she's one of the older ones, but I just like to think it's because she's so talented.

Half-Birthday Time

Half-birthdays are a cause for celebration in our home.  Actually, we appreciate any reason to make cupcakes!  So for our half birthday, we do one small gift and cupcakes.  Yesterday Abbie turned four and a half.  Here are some pictures from her party:

These cupcakes were my first attempt at butter cream frosting, also my first time piping the frosting onto the cupcakes instead of spreading it.  Abbie and I made the cupcakes from scratch too.  I can honestly say that these were the best cupcakes I've ever eaten.  Nate and Abbie said that they were not only the best cupcakes, but the best food they'd ever eaten.  Sweet.

A half a candle for the half-birthday.

Abbie got her own Princess Tiana booklight.  Sometimes when Abbie has trouble sleeping at night, she'll read a book before falling asleep.  She always had to read by the light of the nightlight before (Nate sleeps right above her), but now she'll be able to use her booklight.  I love that she wanted a gift that encourages reading.  She's definitely mine!

And for the comic relief portion of the half-birthday party, Daddy.  We can always count on him to cross the line, over and over again.

If I Were a Rich Man

Aren't flowers a luxury?  They're like patterned socks.  Oh... When our budget isn't so tight, I absolutely plan to include a weekly flower allowance.  I can't wait.

I realized, after looking at my list of recent posts, that a huge part of this blog has been devoted to my countless craft projects.  That's all fine and dandy, but I decided that I wanted to create a different blog devoted to crafts.  Here it is: Martha Shmartha.

I'm really excited to be joining the world of crafters.  After all, it's the most trendy thing to do now, you know, having your own craft blog.

I do have some seriously exciting news, though!  A St. Patrick's Day bunting that I sewed yesterday is going to be featured on the site One Pretty Thing!  It makes me feel like I'm a real crafter now (even though I'm totally an impostor)!  This is so sweet!

A Name and a Prize

I am thinking of creating a blog that will be devoted to my craft projects.  My love of crafts has increased exponentially since my surgery--It's been the best distraction and relief.  The only issue is that I don't know what to call the blog.  So... I am holding a contest.  Leave me a comment with your proposed name and the person who suggests the winning name will win a craft.  I am willing to take requests for the prize, as well!  The name just needs to bring to mind crafts; it doesn't necessarily need to have anything to do with my name (it can, though!).  Thanks and happy naming!
