My attempt at honesty in motherhood

THIRTY

Well, it happened.  I turned thirty last week.  I was dreading it, seriously dreading it.  I'm not sure why--I guess it just sounded old.  But my fantastic, loving, best-husband-ever made it wonderful.  Alan planned a throw-back party for me on the Saturday night before my actual birthday.  He invited lots (over 50!) of my good friends to join us at Westmorland Park for party subs, cupcakes, hot cider, and Capture the Flag.  I used to play Capture the Flag every night during the summer; I love Capture the Flag.  The party was a blast.  It was the perfect way to start 30.  I only wish I had more pictures, or even one good one.

For my real birthday, which is usual a bummer for me since I can't spend it with my twin sister, a dear friend took me out for breakfast to La Brioche.  It was wonderful food, wonderful company.  Then I received 30 postcards, all at once, from my friend Meg (5th grade friend).  She wrote one word on each postcard, so that I had to piece them all together to create my birthday message.  Meg is the queen of postcards.

On the evening of my birthday, we ate at the Hubbard Avenue Diner.  Such good food.  Then we indulged in a cherry cheesecake.  Yum.
You know what?  Thirty was my best birthday in years.  Maybe it's not gonna be so bad.

Devil's Lake

Leaf Pile

Is there anything better than a leaf pile in the fall?

Mommy-Nate Date

I seriously love our Mommy-Nate dates.  Nate and I don't get to spend much time alone, so when we do, I revel in it.  Nate is my little heaven on earth.  Fun, sweet, honest--My relationship with him is more than I ever could have hoped for.

For our last date, we ate lunch at Chili's (Nate ate a grilled chicken breast with a salad) and then we stopped by Toys R Us.  There we completely splurged (part birthday present) and bought the Harry Potter Lego set of the Weasley's Burrow.  Nate is a Lego fiend; I'm aspiring to be more like him.  But spending an afternoon on Legos and Harry Potter fits both of our dreams.  We had such a blast building the set--It took us a couple of hours!  It's provided countless hours of playtime for our whole family.  I'd prefer Lego Harry Potter to playing Baby any day.  Win-win!

Bike-a-Thon

Last month Abbie's preschool, Mt. Olive Lutheran Preschool, held a Trike-a-thon to raise money for St. Jude's.  The kids brought their trikes/bikes and rode around a small track in the parking lot for the last part of preschool.  In all honesty, this was really a trike-a-thon.  The majority of kids were on tricycles.  A couple were on bigger bikes with training wheels.  And then there was Abbie, racing around the track on her two-wheeler, scoring over 40 laps.  This girl was on fire.  I'm a proud mama.
