I remember going to Cherokee Marsh a lot as a child. One of my favorite memories was catching snakes. I told Nate about that and he about peed his pants. Nate is, well, terrified of snakes. He got a book for his birthday about snakes and hid it behind his bookshelf. He won't even enter the herpeterium at the zoo. We only saw one snake at the marsh and wow---I think that I'm going to sign Nate up for track. That boy can run! He came home and told Alan that we saw a rattlesnake. I love that kid.

Cherokee Marsh
Last Friday, I was able to accompany Nate on a field trip! His class and the two other kindergarten classes from Van Hise went to Cherokee Marsh. What an experience! We spent about 2 hours with some naturalists, hiking and examining marsh water. It was pretty fun, other than lasting way too long and the fact that we didn't have any water. The kids got bored, hot and thirsty. And the ticks. Yes the ticks. We spent the entire field trip pulling ticks off of all the kids. But other than that, it was fun. :)
These are not good for the trees. All the kids got was that they were nasty cause they looked like worms.
Here is my group of kids dipping cups into the marsh water. We found some mosquito larvae and a snail. Only one kid fell in (not from my group). :)
