Halloween is probably my favorite holiday, although Christmas is right up there.  Maybe I just love a reason to decorate and celebrate.  I was incredibly frustrated this Halloween because of the physical limitations my back has put on my activities.  I have become rather independent, what with my husband being gone more than home, so having to rely on other people is not super consistent with my way of life.  But this year, I was blessed to have Alan on call the night before Halloween so that he could be home for Halloween.  He did the raking in the front yard while I directed.  I wonder what my neighbors think of me after watching me direct from the porch?  Alan also did our grocery shopping and cooking for Halloween dinner.  I know it may seem small, but my heart is full just thinking about how lucky I am to have a husband who is ready and willing to do these things.  I love Alan.  So much.

While transferring our camera from Alan's hands to mine, we both somehow managed to lose it and dropped the camera.  CRAP!  This was as we were out the door for trick-or-treating. And it broke.  We still can't get it to work.  Alan drove to his parents house to borrow their camera, but then it wouldn't work either.  We got out our old camera and while the kids were out with Alan, I went through about 20 AA batteries searching for two that had enough charge to take like 5 pictures of the kids in their costumes.    Things worked out and we got the pictures after the kids got home from trick-or-treating.  Thank goodness because they were so dang cute!

After the kids went to bed, Alan and I sat down to watch Signs, like the only movie that ever scared Alan.  But I was too freaked out and we had to turn it off.  Odd, because that movie never scared me before--I always thought it was stupid and funny.  So we switched to our current Netflix movie, Yes Man.  Alan slept through most of the movie (he was post-call), but I watched it and got some good laughs.  It was just what I needed at the end of a long day.

Looking back, I can say that my kids had a wonderful Halloween.  We went to a party on Friday night at church, spent some time outside on Saturday, had a fun dinner and went trick-or-treating.  More than that, we all spent the day together.  And creating a good day for my kids is all that really mattered.
