Pityriasis Rosea
Poor Abbie has developed quite the rash. It started about three weeks ago and after a week of just getting worse, I finally took her in to see the pediatrician. The verdict? Pityriasis Rosea. This rash is fairly uncommon in children, but also very benign. For Abbie, there's no itching and it's not contagious (THANK GOODNESS!), just a really horrible looking rash. It started on her neck and torso, but has now spread to her entire body. It doesn't bother her at all, but I have to explain a lot that she's seen a doctor, it's not contagious, she's really okay to be at preschool and ballet, etc. The good news is that it goes away on its own. The bad news is that it can take up to 8 weeks to heal. Poor girl! I'm hoping that it will be gone in time for the pool opening which happens in three weeks...
