Shadows

Changes in routines are so hard on my children.  They thrive on schedules, on knowing what will be happening when.  A mommy who has had surgery does a serious number on family routines.  Needless to say, we've all had a difficult time.  In an attempt to make things easier for Nate and Abbie (Abbie especially), we purchased a king size bed.  We love being able to have the kids come in bed with us when they're scared or lonely.  The last 2 weeks have made for a lot of scared and lonely nights.  But with my sensitive back, it was difficult to pack all 4 of us in bed on those nights when everybody needed to be together.  So we invested in a king size bed.  After a few nights, I think that it's one of the best investments we've ever made.  On Wednesday, when Alan was on call and gone for the whole night, both Abbie and Nate were able to sleep in our bed.  I didn't have to worry about getting kicked in the back, or about having to get up and down a million time to soothe troubled children in a different bedroom.

One night, to cheer the kids up, as laughter is absolutely the best medicine in our home, Alan made some shadow puppets on our ceiling.  Nate and Abbie laughed and laughed.  It was wonderful to all be cuddled up in the bed, sharing a moment of untroubled fun.  The shadows were so good, so funny that I had to take pictures:
