My attempt at honesty in motherhood

Oh, Nate.

For your viewing pleasure, a video of Nate's newest dance moves. (If you like the idea of a skinny white boy shaking his stuff, press play now.)

On a rainy day in December (I know), I was messing around with the kids. I dared Nate to run down the steps and do a little dance on the sidewalk without his shirt on. I told him I'd give him a dollar if he did it. I didn't really think he'd take me up on it. He did.

This kid is just hilarious. We call Nate The Slinker. The nickname developed from Nate's habit of slinking off to do something else (READ) when he's supposed to be working or helping out. I never thought I'd have to set limits on reading time, but this kid is unbelievable. I ask him to set the table--He puts out 4 plates and then I realize a few minutes later that he's disappeared. Luckily I know just where to look; Nate is in his room reading. I can empathize--I would love to spend all day reading, too, but then the house would be a mess, nobody would eat, there would be no clean clothes, etc. So we're trying to teach Nate that even though reading is a great habit, there are things that he needs to do before he reads. It's an uphill battle, but I can't complain too much because as far as bad habits go, if reading too much is the worst of it, I think we're in a pretty good place.
